Description
Two lanterns in one body. Mahoroba runs as an LED lantern with a Goal Zero light dropped inside, or as a real oil lantern when you fit the oil burner. The oil kit is included. The Goal Zero light is not.
Mahoroba is an old Japanese word for the most beautiful place, the place you come home to. The base carries a contour map engraving, and the peak in the middle is that idea.
It is machined from solid brass in our shop in Kasugai. At around 500 grams people are usually surprised the first time they pick it up. That weight is the honest cost of cutting a lantern out of solid material instead of forming it from sheet.
The two knobs
- Left knob comes off and becomes the hex key that adjusts the wick height.
- Right knob opens and closes a window in the side, changing the airflow. More air, taller and livelier flame. Less air, small and steady.

Notes
- LED mode takes a Goal Zero Lighthouse Micro Flash. Flame mode works on its own, no LED needed.
- Lamp oil cannot be shipped internationally, so please source paraffin lamp oil locally.
- Made in small numbers. This is not a production line.
- Standard worldwide shipping is included in the displayed USD price. US import duties are prepaid before the parcel leaves Japan, so nothing is collected at your door.
